my first cram cream!

cram cream

a few days ago a small package arrived from an unknown address. I opened it up, and it was a cram cream mushroom kitchen timer that my mom had bought off the internet for me and had it shipped directly to my house in maryland. I was having a bad day (homesick) a few weeks ago, and she told me that she just wanted to find something that would make me feel better. I was seriously so excited and blown away when I saw what it was, because I have no idea how my mom even found out what cram cream was! the woman did her research! :) i have the best mom ever.

thanks again, mom :) i love you.

encouraging my nerdy side

vic bought me a nintendo DS! :o

victor randomly decided to buy me a nintendo DS lite last night. hehe. I was pretty excited about it! The first game i bought was nintendogs, and it’s really similar to a game i used to play on the computer when i was younger (petz). the system and games are really cute and fun, but the ones i’ve played so far, i seem to get bored with fast. there isnt much depth to them. I also don’t want to blow a lot of money on games, so I think i’ll shop online for used ones. I bought the Sims 2 tonight, and i thought it was going to be like the computer version of the sims (which i played for HOURS when it first came out for the PC), but its different. there is more of a presented plot with tasks to complete.

This also reminded me of the nintendo controller DS case that i remember seeing online a long time ago. maybe i should give it a try?

what a lovely boy, i have. :] ♥

knitting, second attempt.

knittingi finally learned how to knit
As most of you know, I attempted to teach myself how to knit from a book… which i learned how to cast on pretty well, but i was always insecure that it was wrong (i havent even seen anyone knit up close before…). I also tried to learn the knit stitch and confirm my “cast on” stitch by watching videos on the internet… which i figured would do the trick. i learn pretty visually for the most part, so i resulted to visual teaching instead of just a book. this also failed. I couldnt figure out the knit stitch.

About a month ago, I found a local knitting shop in funkstown, MD…called Y2Knit (about 5 minutes from hagerstown). I passed it everyday on the way to and from work. I stopped in once, and chatted with the owner, Susan… and she is such a nice lady! we talked about tons of things including vegetarianism and crafting. I found out that she was teaching beginning knitting classes that started a few weeks after i stopped in. I ended up signing up about a week before the started…. and I was super excited. I probably could have had a friend teach me for free, considering most of my friends knit… but I also wanted to support a local crafter who has made her craft, her profession also!

She called me a few days before my class, and informs me that i was actually the only person who signed up for this class this time around (which apparently is unusual, no doubt!)… so she said we would reschedule for when she could either get more people, or combine a few classes. Within a week, she called me back and set up my first class. I had it last thursday, and it was really fun. There is only one other lady in my class (her name is mary, and she works at the free clinic! neat!), who is basically one step more advanced than me (she took the beginning class last time), and she is learning how to circular knit currently. it was overwhelming watching her lesson before mine! haha. cool, though. I felt totally at home and comfortable. she also is a really good teacher. We practiced casting on, and i learned the knit stitch, and i think I’ve finally got both down really well. I was suprised at how easy it actually was to do. it seemed so hard, when i was teaching myself… but i learned in less than 30 minutes when she taught me. I’m so excited! My next class is October 3rd, and I cant wait. I’m working on a scarf now, i guess.. but i’m really just practicing my knit stitch! hopefully i will get a lot faster with time. :]
